Hoskin - URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED! the Dog needs a home

Hoskin was not a happy boy at the shelter...the sounds, smells and kennel terrified him.  Once out of the kennel and taken outside he was a happy, wiggly playful boy!

FROM HOSKIN'S FOSTER FAMILY:  Hoskin has finished our 2 week shut down. He plays really well with toys by himself. He sleeps in his crate while we are at work & at night. He is still adjusting to our food, but his coat is much softer!  So far, he growls to let us know he needs out in between scheduled times. Hoskin is great with Redford since Redford tends to be more calm. We limit time with Dexter since they try to charge at each other (two alpha male personalities). Hoskin is "on alert" outside. He is extremely fearful of cars, which makes me think his leg was broken from being hit by a car.   He does well walking on a leash, but we have only been on our quiet street. He is very fearful of strangers (as neighbors have been out while it was potty time).  He does not let his hurt leg slow him down at all. I would suggest a home where he is the only dog or with a submissive female and no small children.  His handler has to show Hoskin who is boss.  He is a cute wiggle butt  and loves to be petted with belly rubs and  snuggle time. He is a great dog that just needs continuous training that I'm sure will come in time with trust.

Hoskin's foster family will continue to work on his trust and insecurity in certain situations :)

THE LATEST:  Hoskin has been with us for 6 1/2 weeks now.
He has made very good progress with us during that time with severe trust issues.

Hoskin is able to interact/play with our dogs, but with supervision at all times.

Hoskin is very fearful of any strangers and any loud noises such as loud trucks going by on our street. He lunges at the road. He's a small boxer at 55 lbs, but mighty!! He does not let his deformed leg stop him!

He has had a few pee accidents inside when he wakes up - he has to go ASAP! So, I keep my shoes by the door & we have restricted his water after 8pm.

He has a great appetite, loves to fetch, plays with toys well, and entertains himself. He chases his own tail! Haha!

He loves to snuggle with us at night on our bed. We keep him in the crate while we are at work & fusses for a little while, but settles down.

I would suggest training with his furever home members especially if you plan to walk dogs together. Right now, Hoskin goes on walks by himself to diminish overstimulation.

We have a fenced in yard, but have not let him off the leash yet as we are still teaching boundaries.  (I have a few gardens.)

URGENT/UPDATE:  We are in URGENT need of a foster home for Hoskin. He is about 4 years old and completely vetted. He is currently fostering with two older Boxer boys who he has had a couple of scrapes with but for the most part has been good with them. Hoskin seems to be a "one person" dog...he trusts and is loyal to one person in the home. He has not been around kids or cats. At this point we would not place him in a home with kids under 18. Hoskin is currently located in Paxton, IL. Please email Lori at [email protected] for more information. Thank you!
